SLITHERING SNAKE Serpent VINTAGE NATIVE AMERICAN ZUNI STERLING SILVER EARRINGS
This is a striking vintage Zuni hand carved silver snake earrings. These superior earrings each consist of an amazing hand carved silver snake I love how the snakes contain beautiful and intricay carvings throughout. Each earring measures 2inches long and 5mm wide. The earrings weigh around 4.1 grams Rattlesnakes are seen throughout Southwestern lore as either protectors or omens of danger.

Whether friend or foe, the snake has held a fascination in the folklore and art of Native Americans, Mexicans and Anglo settlers alike. Snake or serpent motifs are found on prehistoric petroglyph designs as well as in contemporary pottery, weavings and jewelry.

These Navajo Stamped Silver Rattlesnake Earrings were made in the sphere of whimsical and protective. The artist created a swirling serpent in silver.

The eyes are stamped and the body has a series of oval designs down its back. The rattler's tail is made with a series of stamped lines. The final effect is a beautiful undulating snake. The earrings are for pierced ears.

Condition : The earrings are in excellent condition. Provenance: From a Santa Fe collector. Recommended Reading: Indian Jewelry of the American Southwest. By Sarah Peabody and William A. Origin: Diné of the Navajo Nation.
